Almandine Garnet in Pegmatite

This is an almandine garnet in pegmatite from the Leiperville pegmatite in Delaware county Pennsylvania. The forms of the garnet are trapezehedrons and dodecehedrons. The garnet would be red brown in color but weathering has given it a crust of manganese and iron oxide on the outside which appear sooty black.
