Stirrup Portrait Jar

The modeled features on this exceptional jar indicate that it is a portrait of a specific individual, possibly a noble. The ear pendants, which are decorated in white slip, were probably metal. The face is painted with symmetrical red panels. A simple turban completes the jar. It is interesting to note that the spout is only one-half of its original height. It probably had been broken at the rim and consequently sawed off to make it even.
